Rome Climate and Weather

As mentioned earlier, Rome has a Mediterranean sub – tropical climate. There could be frequent rain fall or showers around the month of November. The best time to tour the city or swim in the sea is between July and August because the air is quite warm and it has the most daily sunshine.

  • Spring: between March and mid – April; has a relatively mild and rainy season. The last few weeks of April and the month of May have warmer days but the sea breeze keeps it cool.
  • Summer: between June to August; July being the hottest month with an average temperature of 26°C (78°F). It can go up to 34 °C – 38 °C. The temperature in the Roman coast can be cooler than the city center.
  • Autumn: usually between September to November. The temperature is mild and humid, with alternate periods of cloudy skies and occasional rains especially around the month of October. Frequent rains may begin in the last few weeks of November and the temperatures will also begin to drop for winter.
  • Winter: between December to February. The coldest is January; the temperature can easily drop to 8°C (46°F) or even at 7.5 °C. December is the wettest month in Rome; the city usually experiences an average of 96 mm of rain.
